I was out for dinner at Straits Quay last week. It was my second time in Straits Quay and my buddy and I were supposed to bring a friend from KL, Douglas, for dinner.
The place is big and is like a blardy maze! But you don't see me complaining about the long walk from the multistory carpark to the end of the complex. I enjoyed the ten minute stroll.
We talked about the difference between acting for TV and theater, and his upcoming stand up gig in Intel.
We sat at a bar and thirty minutes into the dinner, Douglas looked weary. He kept asking if it was going to rain. Well, I'm no weather girl myself, so i replied a half-assed "No lah, it hasn't rained this week."
He said he saw lighting in the dark horizon. I said I always see lighting but it just doesn't rain.
And then, for added measure, i said "Trust me".
After a short discussion, we decided to move inside before the rain comes, or before the two guys start to stab me with butter knives.
"My experience is, even when there's lighting, it just won't rain". I lit a cigarette.
"I love your optimism. But from my experience, ten times you see lighting, 9 times sure rain one!". He said.
I smirked.
And then i started to wonder, maybe it's true. Sometimes in life, i saw the signs, but i chose to ignore them just to keep the positive momentum going.
Had i chose to believe the signs a few months ago, I wouldn't have packed my bag in a haste, trying to run away from the rain.
Obviously, I am drenched now but i will not falter.
I fell into kef, being incapable of hate.
