If Love is Marriage and Marriage is Love, Then a Husband is a Wife and a Wife is a Husband

My twin sister's wedding is in less than 2 weeks.

I thought instead of giving her angpow, I'd give her something meaningful.

My ability to write.

p's: I'm supposed to cross stitch a phrase for her, but the task is taking too long! :P

Love is not the delicious euphoria you get whenever you lay eyes on him. It’s not those arresting moments you shared among the two of you. It’s not about the breakfast in bed, the little notes of sweet confession, the longing you had when many weeks has passed since you last met. It’s not about the manic rush of falling in love, when time seems to suspend and everything else is animated by blithe disregard for sustained thoughts.

Love is the peaceful tension when the craziness of falling in love has died down. When everything else that is colorful and pretty turned gray and dull; serene nonetheless.

Love is not romantic. Love is life and life is real. You might frown at this now, but you will agree with me ten years from now.

Love is also about the distance you run for each other. Love is like a three legged race actually. When your partner stumbles, love will make you wait and help him to his feet, when everything else in your body tells you to untie the cloth that’s keeping you together and save yourself first.

Both of you might have differences, but you will make sure the differences are complementary.

You are not bounded by them.

Love is a strange disposition. It’s not about subscribing to the olden patriarchal practice. The man of the house is not responsible for everything, from kitchen bill to the roof that shelters both of you. Love will make you assist and support him. Love will also makes him appreciate and reward you as needed.

Of course, practice all these with some guarded sense.

One word can’t possibly cover all gray. If love is marriage and marriage is love, then a husband is a wife and a wife is a husband, in more ways than one.
